The Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation has registered the world’s first nasal vaccine against COVID-19. According to the press service of the Ministry of Health, the new type of vaccine consists of two doses and is administered at intervals of three weeks.
The vaccine is approved for persons aged 18 years and over. Like Sputnik V, the vaccine consists of two components based on adenoviral vectors of the twenty-sixth and fifth types. It is introduced into the nasal cavity using a special spray nozzle.
The Ministry of Health reported that the vaccine forms mucosal immunity against coronavirus infection on the surface of the respiratory tract mucosa, as well as humoral and cellular immunity in the blood.
