With metal tubes, wooden planks and cement, a 25-meter-long bridge was built over the Valverde estuary, in the canton of San Lorenzo del Pailón, on the northern border of Esmeraldas.

The work was carried out by soldiers from Battalion No. 68 Cotopaxi, belonging to the Army Corps of Engineers, with the donation of pipes from Petroecuador.

In the Valverde estuary there was a bridge made with wooden logs and ropes, which a rising river carried away more than a month ago. Due to the situation, the towns of Mataje and Las Delicias were cut off.

Alirio Góngora, a resident, commented that they made arrangements with the authorities of San Lorenzo and Mataje, to replace the fallen bridge. Governor Tania Obando also made arrangements and received a response from the oil company with the donation of the iron tubes.

The soldiers of the Army Corps of Engineers (CEE) carried out the design and commissioning of labor. To this was added the support of the parish government of Mataje, the private company and the community.

The truss-type bridge (made with metal tubes) has cement abutments, intermediate supports and a wearing course made of wooden planks.

This work also benefits Campanita, Pampanal, Palma Real, Tambillo, located near the border with Colombia.
