The Moldovan authorities will remain neutral and will not join the sanctions imposed against Russia in connection with the conflict in Ukraine. According to TASS, this was stated by President Maia Sandu.

According to her, the conflict in the neighboring country had a negative impact on the economic situation in Moldova. She also stressed the high dependence of Moldova on the export of energy resources from the Russian Federation.

Sandu also stated that the country’s authorities are obliged to ensure peace and sufficient energy resources for its citizens. “By destabilizing the situation here, we will not help anyone: neither Moldova, nor Ukraine, nor our partners in the West,” Sandu said.

Earlier, Sandu said that the cost of food products could rise sharply in Moldova. She noted that hunger does not threaten Moldova, but there is a risk of a significant increase in food prices. According to the President of Moldova, the country’s authorities have already introduced a ban on the export of grain and flour.

On February 24, the Russian Federation launched a special operation to protect the LDNR, which was preceded by the recognition of the independence of the people’s republics by Moscow. President Vladimir Putin said that “circumstances require Russia to act decisively” and that it will not allow Kyiv to acquire nuclear weapons. Following this, Western countries began to impose the most severe anti-Russian sanctions.
