Authorities in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar have detained a superyacht that is allegedly linked to a Russian billionaire, reports Reuters.

According to the agency, the superyacht Axioma moored in Gibraltar under the Maltese flag on March 21. It is assumed that it may belong to billionaire Dmitry Pumpyansky, who on March 9 fell under EU sanctions, and on March 10 left the beneficiaries and the board of directors of TMK.

Pumpyansky was named the owner of the yacht Axioma by Forbes and SuperYachtFan.

According to the government of the British Overseas Territory, a “leading international bank” has applied to the Supreme Court of Gibraltar with a request to arrest the vessel.

Recall that earlier Finnish customs officials banned the issuance of 21 yachts under the pretext that they may belong to “Russian oligarchs.”

On February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, EU, UK, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
