The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights reported that since the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, at least 925 civilians have been killed and almost 1,500 have been injured. This is stated in the statement of the OHCHR.

According to the department, among the dead are 183 men, 137 women, 11 girls, 25 boys, as well as 39 children and 530 adults, whose gender has not yet been determined.

The statement clarifies that most of the victims suffered from the use of explosive weapons with a striking effect of a large area. In addition, OHCHR believes that the actual number of deaths is much higher.

According to the department, this is due to the fact that in recent days it has been difficult to obtain information from some places where intense hostilities were fought. This applies, for example, to Mariupol and Volnovakha (Donetsk region), Izyum (Kharkiv region), Severodonetsk and Rubizhne (Luhansk region), Trostianets (Sumy region). Figures from these regions are not yet included in the statistics.

Earlier, the UN estimated that about 10 million citizens of Ukraine have been forced to leave their homes since the beginning of the special operation. The statistics included both displaced persons and those who left the country.

Recall, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” The goals of the special operation are called “demilitarization and denazification” of Ukraine.
