The Pentagon does not understand why the Russian armed forces used hypersonic weapons in Ukraine. According to TASS with reference to The Hill newspaper, a high-ranking representative of the American military department told reporters about this at a briefing.
The official also clarified that the US authorities can neither deny nor independently confirm the use of hypersonic weapons by Russia in Ukraine, but believe that this is “of course, possible.” According to him, among the possible explanations is considered the desire of the Russian Federation “to send a signal to the West and Ukraine” in the context of ongoing negotiations to resolve the conflict.
“It doesn’t look very practical,” a Pentagon spokesman said.
Earlier, Major General Igor Konashenkov, official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry, reported on the first use of the Kinzhal missile system with hypersonic aeroballistic missiles by the RF Armed Forces. “Dagger” was used to destroy the underground ammunition depot of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
