The recognition of the American company Meta Platforms, which owns the social networks Facebook and Instagram, as extremist and the ban on its activities on the territory of the Russian Federation will not lead to additional restrictions for ordinary users of services, RBC reports with reference to the clarification of Roskomnadzor.
According to the department, the suit of the Prosecutor General’s Office, which decided to recognize the company as extremist, “is not aimed at restricting the use of Meta software products by both individuals and legal entities not participating in activities prohibited by law.”
It is noted that the Meta company will be excluded from the list of foreign organizations that operate on the Internet in Russia, and Instagram and Facebook from the register of social networks. In addition, the media must now mark Meta, Instagram and Facebook as organizations whose activities are prohibited in Russia, and are not allowed to display their logos. In the absence of labeling, the media will be liable.
At the same time, as RBC recalls, for this, organizations must be included in the list of the Ministry of Justice. At the moment, Meta, Instagram and Facebook are not listed in it.
Recall, earlier it was reported that the Tverskoy Court of Moscow, at the suit of the Prosecutor General’s Office, recognized the Meta company that owns Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp as an extremist organization and banned its activities on the territory of the Russian Federation.
