The authorities of North Macedonia have banned the broadcasting of the Russian TV channel RT through telecommunications operators, TASS reports citing a message from Sasha Savicevic, RT distribution representative in Europe and Africa.
According to the spokesman, the North Macedonian operators notified the channel to stop broadcasting “in accordance with the decision of the government and the agency for audiovisual media services.”
Recall that in connection with the conduct of a special military operation by the Russian Federation in Ukraine, the activities of the RT television channel on their territory were also banned by other countries. In particular, the EU countries have decided to ban RT broadcasts throughout the EU.
On February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, EU, UK, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
