Sabanilla Park, a place to learn to ride a bike

Although almost all of us are taught to ride a bicycle as children, we do not know how to jump rocks or roots, or go down hills at high speed, avoiding obstacles.

In Sabanilla Park there are classes to learn mountain biking, in a series of trails (dirt roads), for people of all ages.

The place is located in Daule, 10 minutes from the Villa Club urbanization, in a natural environment with trees and small hills.

In the place there are several types of tracks:

  • Track strider, for teaching children 2 years and older.
  • Area of pump track for youth and adults.
  • Skill zone and obstacles of all levels, such as woods, ups and downs and tires.
  • Natural area of trails.
  • Zone of dirt jump.

“These lands have an owner (owners of the quarries), but we take care of managing the space for cyclists and maintaining it,” says nnnnn, in charge of the site, who adds that the cycling park is a help for some members of the community, since the people who go to the place consume in the shops and spaces of the inhabitants and who hope that little by little it will become a tourist site.

One of those places is the Cabaña El Descanso (known as the Cabaña de Angelito), the final stop of those who use the tracks and trails. It sells typical snacks and hydrating drinks, among other products. There are also hammocks for athletes to rest.

The Daule authorities have had conversations with the local residents to pave the road and include within this project a gravel dirt bike path to the main roads of the canton. So that people arrive by bicycle more comfortably.

The entrance fee is $ 5 for the whole day and only the people who are going to pedal pay. In Sabanilla Park we also rent bicycles (for children and adults) and helmets. For reservations call 099-961-8399. Classes are taught by Iván Chucky Ávila and they have a separate cost, if this item is paid, the cost of entry is already included.

“It is important to learn this series of skills before going down mountains or doing enduro for example (…) There are many cyclists injured because they do not know the proper techniques to do it,” he explains Chucky, who has more than 10 years of experience as a teacher.
