On the afternoon of this Monday the 21st, officials from the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) and a delegation of the company Sinovac They toured a land in the parish of Pifo, at northeast of Quito, analyzing the feasibility of the area for the construction of a biological production plant of the Chinese pharmaceutical.
Michael Moreira, Vice Minister of Comprehensive Health Care of the MSP, announced that this was the first of several lands they will visit to define the right place for construction. He also stressed that It will be the first production center in the country and that once the field studies are finished they will be able to announce the time it will take to build and implementation of machinery.
“The main objective of this project is to strengthen the production of biologicals in Ecuador, not only the vaccine against COVID-19, but for other vaccines that we require in the country, such as influenza,” Moreira said.
The pharmaceutical company will be the one decide the best place to build your production plant. The concerns of the delegation focused on the capacity of the place to solve sources of energy, income and discharges of water, sewage and possibility to have centralized gas.
Angel Vega, President of the Decentralized Autonomous Government of Pifo, welcomed the authorities and members of the entourage. The parish representative highlighted the tranquility of the sector which is surrounded by a cardboard factory and several extensions of land occupied for livestock and agriculture.
Besides the proximity to Tababela airport (10 minutes), Vega said that the project has the support of the inhabitants, who see it as an opportunity to economically boost this sector.
The land has a extension of 3,800 square meters. According to Vice Minister Moreira, this property belongs to the MSP, so there would be no problem handing over the land.
