The Ukrainian army in Mariupol will not lay down its arms and leave the city, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for the Reintegration of Uncontrolled Territories of Ukraine Irina Vereshchuk said.

According to TASS, Vereshchuk said that “there can be no talk of any surrenders and laying down of arms,” and stressed that the Ukrainian authorities “have already informed the Russian side about this.”

Recall, on the eve of the head of the National Center for Defense Control of the Russian Federation, Colonel-General Mikhail Mizintsev told reporters that the Russian Armed Forces offered the Ukrainian military and “foreign mercenaries” in Mariupol to leave their weapons and go to areas controlled by Kiev, guaranteeing them to save their lives.

On February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, EU, UK, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
