Russian vessels may face the problem of updating navigation charts. This, according to Sudostroenie.info, was announced by Alexei Migalin, General Director of the NavMarin company, a member of the working group on import substitution in radio electronics “Navigation devices”.
“Now the majority of Russian ships, with the exception of Novostroy, use C-MAP electronic navigation charts. Until recently, these cards were supplied by the foreign company Lloyd’s Voyage Rus Register, whose Russian office is registered in St. Petersburg. On March 9, this company officially notified its Russian customers that it would stop selling and updating all of its products and services. The reason is the situation in Ukraine,” he said.
Migalin said that without updating the electronic charts, the port inspection would not let the ship go on a voyage. This can happen outside the Russian Federation, that is, the ship will not be able to return home.
“Today, the situation with updating electronic maps is a real problem. And it is very acute, because ships flying the Russian flag will remain in foreign ports, various kinds of sanctions will be imposed on them, and ultimately this may lead to the confiscation of the ship, ”he specified.
Migalin added that Russia cannot count on the supply of navigation equipment from countries that have joined the sanctions – “Europe, Japan and the United States.”
