Bok Tower Gardens, a green destination in Florida for the whole family

Bok Tower Gardens invites visitors to Central Florida to enjoy the moment. It has been doing it since 1929, according to what it indicates, to more than 23 million visitors. Its charm lies in the mix of green settings with artistic, cultural, personal and spiritual growth expressions.

In contrast to the big theme parks, the gardens offer deceleration, which for a sector of travelers is very welcome. Located in the Lake Wales region, a few miles from Orlando, are a great option to relax and connect with nature. With a bonus, in March and April the gardens host the concert under the stars, a four-part cycle that began on March 4 with the swing band Asleep at the Wheel.

The experience combines beautiful landscapes, the light of the moon and stars and lots of music. It is a co-production of Bok Tower Gardens and Lake Wales Arts Council, and will take place on the oval lawn adjacent to the Visitor Centre, with the following performances in this edition:

The first of them is on March 25, with the singer and mandolinist Sierra Hull, who debuted on the Tennessee stage at age 10 and performed at Carnegie Hall at 12, later receiving a contract with a production company. Turning 28, Hull is about to release her fourth full-length album, 25 Thrips.

April 8 is the turn of Pokey Lafarge, an artist inspired by the soul American, but also by African and South American rhythms, with a body of emotional lyrics and captivating melodies.

And on April 22, the Californian country guitarist and songwriter is announced Molly Tuttle, who arrives with the Golden Highway gang. His next album Crooked Tree, is also close, scheduled for April 1.

The Spring Burst Festival

It is worth remembering that it is precisely in the next month that spring begins in the northern hemisphere, and with it comes the Spring Bloom Festivalwhich celebrates the majesty of nature in bloom with a packed calendar of events.

The gardens enchant not only for their beauty, but for an almost centennial history. Designed almost a century ago, the intention of its creator was to make this site a relaxing setting in the middle of the forest.and that it would serve as an obligatory walk for those who wanted to enjoy moments of tranquility and silence.

There is more of 60 Species of Exotic Florida Plants and thanks to its lush vegetation, the place has also become a refuge for animals, including some 120 species of birds and other animals native to the state.

There is also the iconic Singing Tower, in Gothic style and art decowhich is 62 meters high and has a carillon with 23 bells, making it the largest musical instrument in the world.

Bok Tower Gardens also houses a Visitor Center with historical exhibits, a library with archives of rare sites, a historic mansion from the 1930s, Pinewood Estate (temporarily closed) and the Hammock Hollow Children’s Garden area that will delight children, as it has sections designed especially for them.

Recommendations for visitors

Advance purchase of tickets to Concerts Under the Stars is recommended as seating is limited to 600 tickets. The price includes general admission to the gardens. All those who have these tickets will receive a wristband at the entrance gate that must be visible at all times. The door will close at 8:00 p.m. and no late arrivals will be allowed.

Seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 3 p.m. Blankets and low chairs are allowed, flashlights are recommended, and a repellant station will be available. However, outside food and drinks are prohibited.

Bok Tower Gardens is open 365 days a year from 08:00 to 18:00, with the last admission at 17:00. The Visitor Center, Blue Palmetto Cafe, and Shop at Bok are open from 09:00 to 17:00. And it is precisely in these places that currently, due to the pandemic, the use of face masks by visitors.

Tickets to the Garden cost $16 for adults and $5 for children from 5 to 12 years. Children under 5 years old do not pay. Bok Tower Gardens is the perfect getaway for the whole family. So be sure to include it in your Central Florida vacation itinerary.
