British media regulator Ofcom has revoked the broadcasting license of the RT channel. According to TASS, the decision was made after the appeal of the government of the country against the backdrop of 29 ongoing investigations into the channel in connection with non-compliance with the rules of impartiality.

Ofcom clarified that a number of factors were taken into account, including RT’s relationship with Russia, which finances the TV channel. Ofcom also said in a statement that RT is currently not broadcasting in the UK as a result of sanctions imposed by the European Union over the situation in Ukraine. The statement clarified that the regulator doubts that RT can be a “responsible broadcaster”.

RT described Ofcom’s decision as purely political. “For many years in the UK they have been looking for a formal reason to close RT, but they tried to maintain the appearance of freedom of speech. Now the masks have been dropped, ”the RT Telegram channel says.

On February 24, the Russian Federation launched a special operation to protect the LDNR, which was preceded by the recognition of the independence of the people’s republics by Moscow. President Vladimir Putin said that “circumstances require Russia to act decisively” and that it will not allow Kyiv to acquire nuclear weapons. Following this, Western countries began to impose the most severe anti-Russian sanctions.
