Chinese President Xi Jinping: Sanctions make ordinary people suffer

THIS MESSAGE (MATERIAL) IS CREATED AND (OR) DISTRIBUTED BY A FOREIGN MASS MEDIA PERFORMING THE FUNCTIONS OF A FOREIGN AGENT AND (OR) A RUSSIAN LEGAL ENTITY PERFORMING THE FUNCTIONS OF A FOREIGN AGENT.

Chinese President Xi Jinping believes that the United States and NATO need to engage in dialogue with Russia in connection with the situation in Ukraine and in order to reduce Russia’s security concerns. He announced this in a telephone conversation with US President Joe Biden.

He stressed that the introduction of comprehensive and indiscriminate sanctions leads to the suffering of ordinary people.

Biden stressed that he supports a diplomatic solution to the Ukrainian crisis, while informing the PRC leader about what the consequences of providing material assistance to Russia will be.

Both interlocutors agreed on the importance of maintaining open channels of communication in order to “manage the competition between the two countries”.

In addition to the Ukrainian issue, Xi Jinping and Joe Biden discussed the state of US-China relations. Although Biden assured the Chinese leader of his unwillingness to start a new cold war with China, Xi Jinping noted that instead of overcoming the problems created in relations between the United States and China by the administration of former US President Donald Trump, the actions of the new US administration only led to new challenges in relations.
