The United States admits that if disagreements between Washington and Beijing worsen, sanctions may be imposed on China. According to Interfax, this was stated by White House press secretary Jen Psaki.

“We have a number of tools that can be considered, and sanctions are one of the tools,” Psaki said, answering a related question from a journalist.

According to Psaki, the United States is still concerned that China may provide assistance to the Russian Federation during a special operation in Ukraine. She noted that US President Joe Biden made clear to the Chinese leader the possible consequences.

As previously reported, Chinese President Xi Jinping told US President Joe Biden in a telephone conversation that the US and NATO need to engage in dialogue with Russia in connection with the situation in Ukraine and in order to reduce Russia’s security concerns. He also stressed that the imposition of comprehensive and indiscriminate sanctions results in the suffering of ordinary people.

On February 24, the Russian Federation launched a special operation to protect the LDNR, which was preceded by the recognition of the independence of the people’s republics by Moscow. President Vladimir Putin said that “circumstances require Russia to act decisively” and that it will not allow Kyiv to acquire nuclear weapons. Following this, Western countries began to impose the most severe anti-Russian sanctions.
