The Mosfilm Cinema Concern offered cinemas to re-hire their old films such as Viy, Courier, Stalker and others. It is reported by Interfax.
According to Mosfilm, 12 films have already been restored and are ready for distribution, including the films The Mirror and Solaris by Andrei Tarkovsky, We Are From Jazz by Karen Shakhnazarov, Ilya Muromets and Viy by Alexander Ptushko, The Most Charming and attractive” by Gerald Bezhanov and “Cold Summer of 1953…” by Alexander Proshkin.
Mosfilm clarified that this list can be expanded taking into account the wishes of cinema visitors.
Recall that after the start of Russia’s military special operation in Ukraine, many Hollywood studios suspended the distribution of their releases in Russian cinemas. After that, the Association of Cinema Owners of the Russian Federation stated that it was afraid of losing up to 80% of its revenue due to the cancellation of world film premieres as part of the sanctions imposed against Russia, and asked for government support.
It was also reported that the losses of Russian film distribution in March 2022 alone could reach 5 billion rubles.
Meanwhile, some of the Russian cinemas are “redrawing” their posters in favor of domestic films, while others are reporting their closure.
