Oilfield service corporations Schlumberger and Halliburton curtailed activities in Russia

One of the world’s largest oilfield service corporations, Schlumberger, announced that it was halting further investments and the introduction of technologies into its activities in the Russian Federation. In turn, the oilfield services transnational corporation Halliburton announced the termination of its activities in Russia and the suspension of further business development in the country against the backdrop of sanctions. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

Schlumberger said in a statement that they have been watching the escalation of the conflict with concern and, having compared the current situation with the prospects for their own development, they have decided to suspend new investments and the introduction of technologies into the Russian market.

Halliburton announced its commitment to comply with anti-Russian sanctions. RBC clarifies that Halliburton does not have joint ventures in Russia, but the company has already suspended the supply of its products to Russia.

Earlier, the Norwegian oil giant Equinor announced the cessation of trading in Russian oil. Before that, Equinor announced the start of the process of withdrawing from its Russian projects. The refusal to sell Russian oil provides that Equinor will neither enter into new deals nor transport oil products from the Russian Federation.

Recall that on March 15, the European Union introduced the fourth package of sanctions against the Russian Federation in connection with the situation in Ukraine. The new restrictive measures are directed against a number of individuals and organizations, as well as entire sectors of the economy. According to the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the purpose of these restrictions will be “isolation of Russia.”

On February 24, the Russian Federation launched a special operation to protect the LDNR, which was preceded by the recognition of the independence of the people’s republics by Moscow. President Vladimir Putin said that “circumstances require Russia to act decisively” and that it will not allow Kyiv to acquire nuclear weapons. Following this, Western countries began to impose the most severe anti-Russian sanctions.
