The German troops, who will be part of the NATO unit in Slovakia, will not be deployed on the territory of the Czech Republic, the CTK news agency reports, citing Czech Defense Minister Yana Chernochova.

The head of the Ministry of Defense said that this option is “no longer relevant,” because the German authorities do not want this.

The fact that NATO is considering the possibility of deploying part of the Bundeswehr troops in the Czech Republic became known on Wednesday. This was due to the fact that Germany wanted to send more soldiers to Slovakia than Bratislava was ready to accept. The option of placing them in the Czech Republic near the border with Slovakia was considered.

On Tuesday, the Slovak parliament approved the deployment of a NATO unit in the republic, consisting of up to 2,100 military personnel from the armies of the Czech Republic, the United States, Germany, the Netherlands, Slovenia and Poland. The alliance decided to deploy its military in Slovakia in connection with the situation in Ukraine.

Recall, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including those of a financial and economic nature.
