Suppliers of consumer goods are canceling promotions that allowed retail stores to cut prices, writes RBC. Until now, Russians have bought half of the goods at such discounts.
According to the publication, since the end of February, a number of suppliers of the largest Russian retailer X5 Group (Pyaterochka, Perekrestok and Chizhik retail chains) have refused to carry out promotions and provide discounts on their goods, the company’s press service reported. The Azbuka Vkusa network also faced the refusal of suppliers from part of the agreed discounts, its representative said. In the Verny supermarket chain, about a third of suppliers have recently refused promotions, the chain’s press service reported.
Promotions are being canceled not only by multinational companies as part of the refusal to further invest in Russia, but also by domestic producers – mainly those who depend on imported raw materials, says a RBC source in one of the federal networks. According to him, in some categories, Russian suppliers cancel even more promotions than foreigners.
At the same time, according to the research company NielsenIQ for 2021, buyers in Russian retail chains purchased more than 51.6% of goods in physical terms or 49.7% in monetary terms at a discount. The “leaders in discounts” included fabric softeners (93% of products in the category in physical terms), washing powders (80%), dishwashing detergents (77%), cottage cheese desserts (76%), baby food (72% ) and chocolate bars (71%).
