The G7 countries expressed their readiness to increase pressure on Russia against the backdrop of its special operation in Ukraine. The statement following the meeting of the G7 foreign ministers said that the sanctions imposed against Moscow had a significant impact on the Russian economy.

At the same time, the statement says, the sanctions are not directed against “Russian civil society”.

“The G7 is ready to increase this pressure,” the G7 foreign ministers noted.

The other day, British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said that the G7 countries would soon introduce a new package of sanctions against Russia. She did not specify what specific measures could be discussed, but stressed that they are aimed at “weakening the Russian economy” and should deprive the Russian authorities of the opportunity to “finance their war machine.”

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including those of a financial and economic nature.
