An exhibition of author’s dolls takes place on Vasilyevsky Island

Until the end of March, in the Children’s Library No. 7 (3/15 Sredny Prospekt) you can get acquainted with the traditions of the art doll as a huge part of arts and crafts. The exposition as part of the Valley of the Dolls library project presents dolls from private collections and collections of museums and theaters.

Among the most interesting exhibits are dolls by St. Petersburg artist Galina Ishimikli, made especially for the Raznochinny Petersburg Museum. Each exhibit is created in a single copy. The author worked on them in 2014-2016, they are distinguished by their realistic style and attention to the details of the costume, corresponding to the era. Portraits of historical figures and famous people, such as Ilya Repin and Anton Chekhov, side by side with the collective images of Petersburgers of the 19th and early 20th centuries. These are high school students, students, teachers, soldiers, merchants, representatives of bohemia.

“Together with an art doll, you create a whole world that you can pick up and look at from all sides. And there is no feeling that you are its creator – you just helped it materialize, ”says Galina Ishimikli.

The Demmeni Puppet Theater provided for the exhibition puppets from the children’s performance of the theater “Turnip, Ryaba, Kolobok” (artist Alexander Alekseev). They can be seen in the ART windows of the library.

Another part of the exposition – “Soviet Childhood Toys” – was provided by the Sky Tramps Theater. These are dolls, as well as soft, rubber and plastic toys of the 70-80s. XX century. Western traditions are also not deprived of attention – Ekaterina Koludarova’s “Dollstory” collection features decorative and play dolls from the USA, Germany, Spain and Great Britain. Among them are Reborn toddler – baby dolls created in a hyper-realistic manner. All of them are made of soft and hard vinyl, some have natural hair.

Also, as part of the event, there are guided tours and talks for children about the history of different types of dolls, selections and reviews of books dedicated to ritual, portrait, play, theatrical and other dolls.
