Colonel Max Campos, Vice Minister of Government, in an interview with EL UNIVERSO gave more details about the initiative called Commitment to the Security of Guayaquil, which the regime plans to implement to reduce the crime rate in the city of Buenos Aires.
The previous weekend, the Main Port entered the ranking of the 50 most violent cities in the world, according to the Citizen Council for Public Security and Criminal Justice AC, a civil organization that tracks violence on the continent.
Experts believe that placing Guayaquil among the 50 most violent cities in the world is “exaggerated” and weakens Ecuador’s tourism and commercial planning
Until the morning of this Thursday, March 17, there were 267 violent deaths in Zone 8 (Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón).
Last year, in the same period (from January to March), 103 cases were recorded.
Despite the fact that Campos is a colonel in passive service of the National Police, he not only highlights the work that those informed in the streets will carry out, but also talks about implementing a new policy based on urban security, on disarming young people, on designing a inclusive urbanism, in getting young people off drugs and in prevention.
He refers that there are 5 objectives, 24 strategies and 79 actions that will be launched in the city, and that he hopes that the coordination between local authorities and the national government will be adequate to carry out various projects.
In terms of inclusive urban planning, the deputy minister pointed out that 67% of deaths occur in public spaces, which, according to him, are the responsibility of the municipalities.
He mentioned that, in Guayaquil, the Mayor’s Office surveys public spaces, especially in critical areas, to find out which are the spaces with the most risks and thus be able to rescue them through urban design and the recovery of spaces.
Although this axis will not give results in the short term, he stressed that in a few years spaces and neighborhoods will be rescued.
Linked to this is the idea of strengthening community organization to prevent crime. Campos mentioned that the Municipality will create citizen security committees in the neighborhoods, that a training school will be set up for the community and that, yes, with the intervention of citizens, the Police and the council will be able to solve the problems.
In less than twelve hours two drivers were shot in the south of Guayaquil
Disarming young people is another aspiration of this Government. To meet this objective, the official spoke of campaigns aimed at families and even giving incentives in exchange for weapons delivered.
He also said that it is vital to implement a program so that young people stop using drugs, and revealed that it will be done in the coming years, but he has not yet given details about it, because it has not yet been socialized with other related entities. (I)
