This will be a virtual event with the presence of national and international experts.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the commission of crimes against minors has not stopped. Child abuse in its different forms: physical, psychological, labor, deprivation, homicide, continues to be an open wound worldwide and an invisible reality.

“More than half of the girls, boys and adolescents in the region are victims of physical and emotional abuse, negligent treatment or sexual abuse”, reveals UNICEF.

According to MIES data, in Ecuador the entry of minors to foster homes increased by 102% during the COVID-19 pandemic; among the causes are detailed: mistreatment, abuse and abandonment. Of those 756 new admissions of minors to shelters, most are concentrated in the provinces of Imbabura, Esmeraldas, Azuay, Cañar, Pichincha and Loja. The acts of sexual violence were allegedly committed by people who shared blood ties and those related to the minors.
