President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called the ongoing negotiations with Russia “very difficult”, RBC reports citing NBC News.
Zelensky stressed that the two countries are currently going through “the most difficult period in relations,” adding that he “can’t even say that there is any kind of relationship at the moment.”
The day before, in his next video message, the President of Ukraine reported that the positions of the delegations of both sides in the negotiations began to “sound more realistic.” In turn, adviser to the head of the office of the Ukrainian president, Mikhail Podolyak, said that the positions of the parties in the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine began to “come to some kind of compromise.”
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, EU, UK, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
