Andrei Turchak demanded to dismiss the President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) Arkady Dvorkovich from the Skolkovo Foundation.

Dissatisfaction with the Secretary of the General Council of United Russia was caused by Dvorkovich’s critical statements in the Western media about the military special operation of the Russian Federation in Ukraine. Turchak regarded them as “national betrayal” and “boorish and chauvinistic attack against the Russians.”

In addition to criticizing Russia’s actions, Turchak noted, former Deputy Prime Minister Dvorkovich “stated that official chess events should not be held in Russia and Belarus, and their players should be prohibited from representing their countries in international competitions.”

“While some citizens of Russia are fighting for the Motherland and the people of Russia with weapons in their hands, others have essentially taken the side of the enemy and are acting in his interests,” Turchak said in a statement.

Earlier it became known that Dvorkovich is under pressure from the sports community because of the special operation in Ukraine. 28 Ukrainian chess players immediately supported his resignation from the FIDE post. At the same time, the ex-Kremlin official noted that he was “depressed by the events in Ukraine.”

In turn, grandmaster Sergey Karjakin called the situation in FIDE Russophobic.
