The European Union should “as soon as possible” grant Ukraine the status of a candidate for membership, as well as provide it with defensive weapons, said Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

He stated this at a briefing in Kyiv after negotiations with the Ukrainian leadership, TASS reports. Morawiecki stressed that the EU “will try to organize” the supply of defensive weapons to Ukraine “from all over the world.”

Recall that earlier, Deputy Prime Minister of Poland Yaroslav Kaczynski, who also visited Kyiv, proposed sending an armed NATO peacekeeping mission to Ukraine.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, EU, UK, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
