President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev is convinced that the form of government in the republic should be changed. He stated this today, speaking in parliament with a message to the people.
According to Tokayev, “Kazakhstan’s development model” needs to be restructured and finally move “from a super-presidential form of government to a presidential republic with a strong parliament,” RIA Novosti reports.
Moreover, Tokayev considers it necessary to legislate a ban on the participation of the head of state in the activities of parties.
The President also called for a transition from voting in elections only on party lists to a mixed electoral model.
In addition, Tokayev considers it necessary to create a Constitutional Court in the republic, which, in his opinion, will be a step “on the path to building a just and legal state.”
As TASS notes, among other important proposals are changes to the country’s constitution for the final abolition of the death penalty.
