Some 8,500 police and military will guard the streets in Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón in this long holiday

Cemeteries, main roads and commercial areas will have fixed surveillance points, but patrols will also continue in critical areas.

Police and military will not have days off in this long five-day holiday that is coming. The number of soldiers who will contribute to citizen security will increase to 8,500 in Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón, informed the Governor of Guayas, Pablo Arosemena. This suburbs, also known as Greater Guayaquil, is the scene of a crime wave and violent deaths that keep citizens in distress.

In addition to the patrols, strategic places have been established where fixed operations will be carried out, such as main roads, conflictive neighborhoods, in cemeteries – for the Day of the Dead, these will host many visitors – and in commercial areas of the city.

Arosemena, in a discussion with the press this Friday morning, received complaints that “the military is not seen on the streets,” to which he replied that they are doing patrols in vehicles belonging to the Armed Forces and also in vans provided by the Municipality of Guayaquil.

The measure is also replicated in Samborondón, where the municipality reported that ten more motorcycles were made available to the National Police to intensify the patrol in this canton.

“The military is where the Police have determined that they are critical sites for them to present their support. But I have also spoken with the mayors, because they know their cities better than anyone and they can validate where the military and police should be. Furthermore, for a matter of strategy, we cannot say where they are and where they are going to move, ”explained the governor.

In the discussion, Arosemena once again insisted on the idea that private guards support the Police. They cannot intervene as public forces, but they can be “the eyes and ears” of the Police, said the representative of the Executive.

“We have 50,000 police officers nationwide, and in Guayas we have 30,000 private guards; Through the companies that employ them, we can establish a direct communication mechanism with the ECU-911 to better cover crime incidence sites ”, he suggested.

Arosemena highlighted the collaboration of the Municipality of Guayaquil and the Corporation for Citizen Security, which also contribute with the identification of the places to be covered, as well as with logistics and technology.

Durán is equipping its video surveillance system with 150 cameras in a first phase, which had only 9. The cameras allow an identification of 100 meters without distorting the images, infrared night recording, motion detection and 360-degree mobility, has highlighted the Municipality in a video communication. This will make it possible to contribute to the work of the public force.

In the coming weeks, the Municipality of Samborondón will release more details of the video surveillance system that will be implemented in the canton, which this holiday will also have a police presence in the vicinity of its shopping centers. (I)
