Javier Pérez, better known under the pseudonym @cintascotch, presented his new project that aims to awaken the creativity of others in the coming months.
In 2013, the Guayaquil designer Javier Pérez saw a bowl of red grapes at his mother’s house and imagined them as balloons. Why not draw them that way? He thought.
Thus was born ‘Niño con uvas’, one of his best-selling and most publicized illustrations, for example, on the cover of the magazine National Geographic in its December 2014 issue. “It literally lifted me out of poverty. It’s like having my own Mickey Mouse“Joked the graphic artist during the presentation of his calendar and planner 2022, where ‘Boy with grapes’ is the cover. It is a project that is already available and for sale and with which Pérez wants to invite others to also awaken their creativity.
The planner, with thick paste and spiral ring, collects some of his best illustrations linked to fun monthly celebrations such as the Sandwich Day (November 3), the International Hug Day (January 21) or French Fry Day (July 13), one of Cinta Scotch’s favorite days, as Pérez is artistically known. You can also find stickers with the same illustrations.
In addition to monthly calendars and space for notes, you will also see some pages with creative exercises where you are encouraged to create your own drawings based on certain premises like creating an image with the initial of your last name or inventing and baptizing a new flower.
“All my illustrations are made on paper, there is nothing better for me than to feel that texture and that is something that I want to convey through this agenda. It is true that I also use tablets or my cell phone, but there is nothing like the feeling when the pencil touches the paperI wouldn’t change it, ”he says.
And that is what I want to convey to people who may be a little scared when asked to draw, that kind of exercises that are within the agenda serve to loosen those artistic qualities that perhaps they have somewhat forgotten them ”, he expresses.

The creation and design of both products was entirely in charge of the designer, with the support of his family, friends and his sister Malú.
Although not included in these printed formats, by 2021 Javier became a trend in social networks again when some of his creations made from landscapes of Guayaquil went viral. Among them, the child sitting on a balcony watching the sunset or the skull that is drawn from the Hemicycle of the Rotunda (Simón Bolívar Malecón).
“That was the beginning of this project to intervene city landscapes“, remember. “I made two collections about Guayaquil and then also from New York, using that mix of illustration with urban photography”. All images can be seen on your Instagram: @cintascotch (which is also a point of sale).
This year, Pérez also received an award for animation at the ceremony of the Latin American Design Awards, carried out last July, thanks to its Stop Motion Experiments project.
The agenda and wall calendar can be purchased on the islands of Bakanes (Riocentro Norte and Mall del Sol), Onda Local (Mall del Sol) or at shop.cintascotch.com.
