Loja has experienced heavy rain this Tuesday afternoon that has wreaked havoc in various sectors. The rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, began around 3:00 p.m. and lasted for 45 minutes.
In the north of the city, in the sector known as La Estancia, a stream overflowed its banks. The flood was destroying domestic animals and other household items in the La Inmaculada neighborhood, which is in the lower part.
Dozens of houses were flooded. Preliminary data indicates that families have been affected by the collapse of walls and the loss of belongings.
Residents of the La Estancia area reported that a 10-year-old girl was dragged by force from the ravine, amid mud and debris.
Desperate, relatives asked for help to locate the minor. Personnel from relief agencies went to the area to help the affected people.
Even though it stopped raining, the water continued to come down from the mountains.
