A girl who cannot return home to Sochi has been living at Koltsovo Airport in Yekaterinburg for about three weeks, the local portal E1.ru reports.

According to the publication, the Sochi airport was temporarily closed on February 24 after the start of a Russian military special operation in Ukraine. The girl could not fly home and still remains at the Yekaterinburg airport. A reader of the publication, who works in one of the airport restaurants, said that he noticed the girl after she came several times to charge her phone.

According to the reader, the girl looks about 18 years old. After the man talked to her, it turned out that she could not return home due to the rise in ticket prices and the closure of the sky in the south of the Russian Federation. “It’s a strange situation – it was supposed to fly away and didn’t fly away,” the reader added. The publication turned to the press service of Koltsovo Airport for a comment.

Recall that after the start of the military operation in the Russian regions, where airports are temporarily closed, about 150 thousand tourists got stuck, Rostourism reported.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, EU, UK, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
