The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) said it had asked the Russian Federation for clarification about the idea of dual registration of leased aircraft. According to RIA Novosti, the answer has not yet been received.
The European Union, within the framework of sanctions against the Russian Federation due to its special military operation in Ukraine, banned the sale of aircraft and spare parts to Russia, as well as the export of technologies used in the aviation and space sectors. Insurance and maintenance of goods related to these industries is also not allowed.
As it became known on Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law that allows registering in Russia the rights to foreign aircraft leased by Russian companies, as well as issuing domestic airworthiness certificates to them. Such amendments enable Russian airlines to keep the fleet of foreign aircraft and operate aircraft on domestic routes.
According to the estimates of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation as of March 11, Russian airlines operate 1,367 aircraft, of which more than half are registered in foreign registries – 739.
