Foreigner prosecuted for money laundering was wanted by Interpol

The amount of laundering, for which it is used, uses two Russian citizens, would amount to 1.2 million dollars, according to the Prosecutor’s Office

A criminal proceeding was initiated for alleged money laundering of more than one million dollars against two citizens of Russian nationality who were arrested in operations carried out in Quito and Manta on October 27, 2021. Although one of them has red diffusion of the Interpol for the crime of fraud has not known the identity of any of those apprehended in Ecuador.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the defendants – along with other Russian citizens – would be part of a criminal organization that – during the period 2010-2017 – would have received money from illicit activities through their bank accounts, remittances and parcel service.

In addition, they would have received money through a legal entity, which would have been used to erase the money trail. “The alleged amount of laundering would amount to 1.2 million dollars,” notes the Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the migratory flow registered by the Ministry of Government in Migración.gob.ec until September 2021, 1,302 Russians have entered Ecuador and 1,290 have left the country. The majority arrival is made by airports, only one entry by land and 79 by sea.

In 2020, 2,059 citizens of Russian nationality arrived in Ecuador, of which 1,334 entered by air, 143 by land borders and 581 by sea ports. 2,284 left.

In 2018, before the pandemic, the migratory flow registered 1,116 arrivals of Russian citizens and 6,060 departures. In 2019, despite the closure of the borders, the figures are similar: 6,380 admissions and 6,201 exits.
