Access to the social network Instagram has been officially blocked in Russia since midnight March 14. According to the GlobalCheck service, the availability of the resource is 0%.
Recall that last week Meta Platforms Inc. allowed its users on Facebook and Instagram to post information containing calls for violence against the Russian military. The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office demanded that Roskomnadzor restrict access to this social network, and the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on extremism. The RKN announced that it will restrict access to Instagram in Russia from 00:00 on March 14, providing for an additional 48 hours of a “transition period” for users to save their content.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, EU, UK, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
