20 detainees with around 1.5 tons of drugs in a warehouse on the Narcisa de Jesús highway, in the north of Guayaquil

The Prosecutor’s Office presumes that the cargo was destined for New Zealand.

Police agents with the support of the Prosecutor’s Office found around 1.5 tons of drugs in a warehouse located on the Narcisa de Jesús highway, in the north of Guayaquil,

At the site, uniformed officers found 20 people who were – in flagrante delicto – entering sacks of drugs into a container that was transporting bananas, said Marco Erazo, of the National Police.

“It is clear that there was a violation of seals, a cloning of these seals, in order that after the container is contaminated those seals are put on and there is no news to their shipment at the port,” he said.

The Prosecutor’s Office presumes that the cargo had as its final destination New Zealand.

The 20 detainees were taken to the Flagrancia Unit of the Model Barracks pending the hearing to formulate charges.

Meanwhile, agents transferred the trailer and the cargo for weighing to the Anti-Narcotics Unit of the Port of Guayaquil. (I)
