British MP Stephen Kinnock has asked the UK Home Office to take steps to strip Russian TV presenter Sergei Brilev of British citizenship, ban him from entering the country and freeze his British assets. It is reported by The Guardian.
Brilev holds British citizenship and owns property in West London. At the same time, the publication notes that last week the Ministry of Internal Affairs refused to comment on individual cases.
Nevertheless, according to Kinnock, Brilev plays an important role in supporting Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine. The MP believes that the TV presenter should be investigated for sanctions.
Other Russian TV presenters have already faced EU sanctions for supporting the special operation. Among them was TV presenter Vladimir Solovyov, who was deprived of his villas on Lake Como worth 8 million euros.
Cadastral records examined by the Observer last week showed the £700,000 London flat still belongs to Brilev’s wife, Irina.
Brilev is one of the most famous Russian TV presenters. He was the official commentator for Putin’s 2018 inauguration. He is also listed as a member of the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC), co-founded by the Russian Foreign Ministry and chaired by Sergei Lavrov.
Sergey Brilev refused to comment on the situation to The Guardian journalists.
