The provincial directorate of the Transit Commission of Ecuador (CTE) ordered the restriction of the passage of light vehicles this Saturday morning on the E25 Babahoyo-Jujan section, at the height of the Ecuavegetal sector, because the road was flooded by the last rains.
The water level reached 50 centimeters above the road, so the light cars began to show damage, becoming stuck. The rural area is the most affected by the overflow of the rivers.
Due to the critical winter situation, the city was declared an emergency in a meeting held by the mayor of Babahoyo, Carlos German, together with representatives of the local COE.
Jael Melo, director of the CTE Los Ríos, announced that drivers can take alternate routes and thus avoid an accident. CTE personnel remain on the road to guide drivers who arrive at this point.
The floods drag vehicles and make it difficult to circulate on the roads of Los Ríos
She suggested Pueblonuevo-Milagro-Guayaquil as alternate routes; Pueblonuevo- Simón Bolívar-Milagro; Baba-Quevedo-El Empalme.
While on the Babahoyo-Montalvo road, the passage is restricted at kilometer 205, so it is recommended to take the alternate routes Montalvo-La Esmeraldas and Caluma-Pueblonuevo.
Several citizens of the sector took advantage of the situation that drivers are experiencing by wanting to cross the affected sections of this road to earn a few cents by guiding them on the road; others did it by pushing the vehicles so they could move to the other side, avoiding accidents.
In the urban area there are still sectors that remain flooded due to the increase in the flow of the San Pablo and Caluma rivers during the winter season. Authorities asked citizens to take precautions to avoid accidents in that area. (I)
