They detect an artisanal laboratory in Mataje that could process half a ton of drugs a week

A clandestine laboratory for processing cocaine hydrochloride was destroyed by the Anti-Narcotics Police and soldiers from the Marine Infantry Battalion (Bimlor No. 11) San Lorenzo, in Mataje, northern border of Esmeraldas.

The infrastructure, of about 200 square meters of artisanal type, was located by military reports in a mangrove area of ​​difficult access. A 440-volt electric generator, drums with chemical precursors, fuel and equipment to produce half a ton of drugs a week.

Luis Heredia, head of the Antinarcotics operation, indicated that in the raid called Manglar Verde no people were found guarding or in process of the alkaloid.

In March 2021, the military also found a construction to produce an average of three tons of drugs per month. It was located between the rural communities Labores Agrícolas and Vaya Mirando, and about 80 meters from the Mataje River, the international border between Ecuador and Colombia.

In total, 41 tons of drugs of all kinds have been seized in the provinces of Esmeraldas, Imbabura, Carchi and Sucumbíos, between January and March of this year.

While fifteen clandestine drug processing laboratories have been disabled on the northern border since 2017, according to reports from the Anti-Narcotics Police.

In another naval incursion, three citizens of Colombian nationality were arrested, who were illegally transporting 1,373 gallons of alleged fuel and 12 tanks of gas for domestic use, without the documentation to justify it.

The fuel was transported in a barge-type vessel, named Niña Anahí, and the capture was made in the sea buoy sector, near the international political boundary (IPL) between Ecuador and Colombia.

Personnel from the North Coast Guard Subcommand and from the Floating Station, located in Ancón de Sardinas, retained the fuel with the detainees.

Meanwhile, the Police apprehended eight Ecuadorians and three Colombians, allegedly linked to armed criminal groups. The arrests took place in Quito and Esmeraldas, revealed Víctor Herrera, from the Zone 1 command. (I)
