Russia will begin the procedure for withdrawing from the Council of Europe this year. This, as the correspondent of “Rosbalt” reports, was announced at a meeting of the State Duma by the head of the lower house committee on international affairs, Leonid Slutsky.

“Through the efforts of the EU and NATO, the Council of Europe is turning from the most wide-ranging European organization into a satellite that pursues a dislocated and unfounded Western policy towards Russia, this also applies to the ECHR,” he said.

The head of the committee called for the development of a “clear, collegial opinion” on the withdrawal of the Russian Federation from the Council of Europe, as well as to begin the implementation of the necessary procedures as early as 2022.

“And human rights will be respected in Russia even without the Council of Europe,” Slutsky assured.

Earlier it was reported that Russia is not going to participate in the Council of Europe, as the EU and NATO countries, unfriendly to Russia, continue the line of destroying the organization and the common humanitarian and legal space in Europe.
