Residents of Zagreb were struck by a strange night explosion, after which parachutes were found at the site of the emergency. The authorities cordoned off the street, are investigating and do not rule out that a military drone crashed in the Croatian capital, flying through three countries.

The country’s police found that an unidentified object fell and exploded on Yarunskaya Street, while the residents of nearby houses “felt the detonation,” TASS reports. “Something”, flying, damaged parked cars and left a funnel in the ground, there were two parachutes nearby. Luckily, no one was hurt, city officials said.

There were suggestions in the media that the Soviet drone “Strizh” (Tu-141) could have crashed in Zagreb and this happened due to the “human factor”, but not due to malicious intent. “The flight range of the Strizh is 1,000 km, which determines the launch region – western Ukraine,” military expert Alexei Leonkov told RIA Novosti.

According to him, the aircraft could have failed in the flight mission, which is entered into the memory of the device on the ground manually, using toggle switches. “One toggle switch was set wrong, and the Swift will fly to the wrong place and will not even return to the base,” the agency’s interlocutor explained.

Croatia is a member of NATO, its Prime Minister Andrey Plenkovic specified that the “Russian-made” UAV flew into Zagreb from Hungary, which it entered from Romania. Croatian Defense Minister Mario Banozic said that the country, as well as the North Atlantic Alliance, do not consider that the incident posed a threat to national security.

“Probably, he was not a threat to Croatia, there is no need to be afraid,” the minister said. He did not say where the drone was launched from.

The President of the Balkan country, Zoran Milanovic, told reporters that the unmanned vehicle flew in from the territory of Ukraine, where a Russian special operation is currently taking place, and crashed in Croatia “when the fuel ran out.”

Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia are in contact with NATO because of what happened.

Meanwhile, the head of the Croatian parliamentary committee on national security, Sinisa Hajdas Doncic, called on the security forces to report why they allowed the “invasion” of someone else’s drone.
