French President Emmanuel Macron “does not see a diplomatic solution in the next few hours or in the next few days.” He stated this before the opening of the EU summit in Versailles, reports RFI.

Macron blamed the lack of results, “despite all the efforts made,” on Russia. At the same time, he rejected arguments about the alleged deliberate isolation of Moscow, noting that there was no evidence for this. “I personally did not stop talking with the president (Russia by Vladimir Putin – ed.) discussion, hosted it here at Versailles, just a few days after my election. I hosted President Putin in 2019. I invited him to Bregançon,” Macron recalled.

He also mentioned the creation of bilateral working groups and an attempt to organize a trilateral meeting with US President Joe Baden “up to and including a unilateral decision by Russia” to launch a special operation in Ukraine.

Macron is confident that the conflict in Ukraine will lead to the fact that the 27 EU countries will make “historic decisions” to “completely change the architecture of Europe.” According to him, a common “decision on energy and possibly agriculture” is likely to be adopted by the end of March, as well as “defense decisions” as part of an emergency meeting of the Council of Europe in May.
