The winter season continues to cause disasters in the province of Loja.

In the Gualel parish, Loja canton, there is pain and concern for the storm. Here, three houses collapsed and left several families practically on the street, since the afternoon of March 8 last.

The residents of this parish, located just over 90 kilometers from the provincial capital, have been affected by the heavy and constant rains that have fallen and that have led to the growth of streams, which in turn have invaded roads, leaving them cut off. and destroying homes, vehicles, and household items.

“I am really devastated. My little house fell to the ground, relatives lived there, people from other places, who had come and were tenants, and that day we were able to take out very few things, because in a matter of minutes (the water) took everything away,” says Tony Angamarca, who lost his home.

Máximo Rogel Angamarca is another of those affected who lost practically everything: his home, his hardware store, belongings, and his motorcycle as a result of the torrential downpour that occurred in this parish.

“The animals, everything, everything was lost in the flood: the clothes, the notebooks of my children who study,” Rogel details.

Ángel Tene, political lieutenant of the parish, indicates that there are three houses that have fallen so far. “One of them was located in the center of the community, where several people lived. Even the teachers and staff of the parish GAD had the rooms where they stayed. The house was three stories high, it all fell to the ground,” he says.

He adds that the roads that connect Gualel with the rest of the canton are also blocked, including those that lead to the El Cisne sanctuary and the Chuquiribamba parish, fearing that there will be more cuts on the main road.

The parish authority affirms that a machine has been contracted with the support of the Guayacán Gold company, the same one that is helping in part to clean the roads.

It adds that there have been no human losses, but that the material damage is irreparable.

Those affected are concerned, since they have had to ask for lodging at the homes of neighbors and relatives, hoping that help will arrive from the authorities.

From the council it is affirmed that through Risk Management and Municipal Public Works an evaluation of the damages is carried out.

The intention is to lend the entire contingent to help the affected families, it is indicated. Added to this are the cleaning mingas that residents and parish authorities have undertaken jointly. (I)
