The Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial Center has suspended cooperation with Russian businessman Roman Abramovich.
“In light of recent events, Yad Vashem has decided to suspend its strategic partnership with Roman Abramovich,” the press service said in a statement cited by Newsru.co.il.
On February 23, the Center announced that billionaire Roman Abramovich had donated an “eight-figure” (that is, at least 10 million shekels) amount. It was noted that the donation was made as part of a new multi-year strategic partnership program. According to press secretary Simi Allen, Abramovich became the second largest donor to Yad Vashem after the spouses Sheldon and Miriam Edelson.
Roman Abramovich is the only known Israeli citizen against whom the British government imposes sanctions (in any case, only Israeli citizenship is noted next to his name).
