Swiss chocolate manufacturer Lindt & Sprüngli has announced a decision to temporarily close stores in Russia and suspend deliveries of products to the Russian market.

According to the statement, the company “carried out a reassessment of activities in Russia.” It is noted that the company’s employees will continue to “receive support.”

In the past two weeks, many foreign companies have announced the suspension of work in Russia due to events in Ukraine. In particular, on March 9 alone, this was announced by the Amazon online store, the beverage manufacturer PepsiCo, the record company Universal Music, the seller of children’s goods Mothercare, the owner of the KFC fast food chain, Yum! Brands, S&P rating agency, Jack Daniel’s and Finlandia alcoholic drinks maker Brown-Forman, Allegro train maker Alstom, Davidoff tobacco maker (Davidoff, West, Jadé, P&S and Maxim cigarette brands), Discovery media company, which owns 15 TV channels, including Animal Planet and Eurosport.

Recall, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, European Union, Great Britain, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
