During the massive march 8 mobilizationin Quito, in commemoration of the International Women’s Dayseveral people they scratched graffiti on wallsstreets, metals, stones, sidewalks and monuments of the historic center, with slogans alluding to the date and against gender violence.
The Municipality, through Metropolitan Heritage Institute (IMP)carried out an inspection of public and private property that was vandalized and quantified the damages at $10,550. That amount of resources will be needed for repairs.
The Council reported that The most affected areas were the monument to Simón Bolívar, in Alameda Park; Guayaquil street, from the San Blas sector to Plaza Santo Domingo; the Theater Square; the monument to Federico González Suárez and Plaza Chica; the Plaza and Church of Santo Domingo and the monument to Antonio José de Sucre. According to the inspection, 1,440 square meters of surface were damaged.
From the morning of Wednesday, March 9, the Heritage Institute displayed several crews of workers who were in charge of cleaning the spaces and painting the walls of heritage sites. (I)
