Britain will step up sanctions pressure on Russia in order to inflict maximum economic damage on it, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in a conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
According to the office of the British Prime Minister, Johnson “undertook to further strengthen sanctions against Russia.” He also “outlined the work the UK is doing to provide Ukraine with the weapons it needs to defend itself,” the report said. It is noted that Zelensky, following the conversation, thanked Johnson for “opposing Russia’s actions on the territory of Ukraine.”
Earlier, Boris Johnson said that the country “is unlikely to return to normal relations with Russia.”
Recall, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, European Union, Great Britain, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
