Go through stone streets and churches of traditional neighborhoods, such as San Juan, San Roque, San Blas, La Tola; taste different desserts, such as mousses, paila ice cream, empanadas in markets; or touring the museums, which will be with a 50% discount, are part of the activities of the bicentennial agenda that Quito offers now that the school vacations have begun on the Coast.
Quito Tourism presented this Wednesday the program of activities “Your story begins in Quito” and the mobile application Visit Quito. These cultural events in the historic center, traditional tours of markets, walks through the modern city, through the La Carolina, González Suárez, Guápulo neighborhoods, and rural tourism areas, in Pasochoa, Pululahua, Micacocha, among others are detailed. .
Cristina Rivadeneira, general manager of Quito Tourism, explained that local tourism, especially Guayaquil, is the strategy that operators and authorities have in the capital; that on holidays local tourism represents 80%, and that the visit of Guayaquil residents has not been measured, but it is high due to sports and cultural activities, above all.
He noted that during carnival they had an excellent reception and that they received more than 26,000 tourists, so they expect that during Easter and the rest of the season the level of visitor arrivals will remain high.
“Guayaquil tourists are important to us. First, that we have a direct air connection. The people of Guayaquil are very into sports, and in Quito there are races, sports activities that receive many visitors from the Coast. In addition, there are also concerts with international artists, cultural activities that encourage the arrival of more visitors. It’s a good complement,” he commented.
Rivadeneira explained that the budget is 4 million dollars for the bicentennial agenda, and that more than 5,000 tourism companies in Quito are in the safe reactivation program, which reflects a large part of local production.
She commented that Quito Tourism coordinated with mobility operators, restaurants, shopping centers and tourist venues to coordinate promotions, such as discounts at the Water Museum, Carmen Alto Museum, Science Museum; in addition to chocolate tastings, craft beer, canelazos; and artistic presentations to welcome visitors on these days.
Carnival generated an economic movement of $ 67 million, indicates the Ministry of Tourism
Personnel from Quito Turismo indicated that economic reactivation is important, and that Quito is seeking to start strongly at the local level, so that all those who make up the guild are trying to receive visitors from the Coast.
He added that, on the subject of biosafety, Quito remains at a yellow traffic light; it was coordinated to respect the distance, mandatory use of a mask —except on outdoor walks in the mountains— and alcohol or hand sanitizer, etc. In addition, it also coordinated with the tourist police and community police to maintain reinforced surveillance in the historic center and in La Mariscal.
“Our historic center is the largest and best preserved in Latin America, so it should be taken advantage of. It’s beautiful in the day, at night. Walking through the stone streets on a sunny day, in the rain, is a spectacle. Drinking coffee with humita, trying sweets… You won’t regret it. Just bring your jacket, your umbrella,” the official recommended.
Those thinking of traveling to Quito can download the Visit Quito application. There you can review transportation with discounts, packages, archaeological tourism, cultural tourism, shopping, meet tourist guides and the weekly agenda; in addition to tours to natural areas for camping, bird watching, sport fishing, bicycling, bear watching and other activities.
