The Minister of Health, Ximena Garzón, consider that there will be no spike in COVID-19 cases after the carnival holiday.
“We have not had a rebound in cases. More than five days have passed since the carnival holiday. We have not had an increase in viral positivity nor have we increased the cases in hospitalization or in the ICU; likewise, out of prudence, we are waiting fifteen days after the end of the carnival period (…), we don’t think there will be a rebound”, he said –this Wednesday, March 9, 2022–, in a face-to-face and virtual press conference held from Latacunga, in Cotopaxi.
In the country, the 99.5% of cases corresponds to the omicron variant and 0.5% to the delta variant. In his opinion, in the next two weeks the delta variant will no longer exist.

Coronavirus cases, hospital admissions as well as mortality have decreased, while the viral positivity by PCR detection tests is located in the 14% –he indicated– and the government aspiration is that it reaches less than 5%, which could show that the pandemic is controlled.
Regarding vaccination, the head of Health pointed out that almost 88.5% of the population has one dose, almost 85% received two doses and the 28% received the booster dose or three doses.
Ecuador is vaccinated against COVID-19 since 3 years old and from the age of 12, the third dose.
There would be at least three steps to obtain medicines in a pharmacy outsourcing project
