The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that the overthrow of the current Ukrainian government is not the goal of a special military operation in Ukraine.

“The tasks of the special operation do not include the occupation of the country, the destruction of its statehood and the overthrow of the current government. It is not directed against the civilian population,” Zakharova stressed.

According to the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the goal of returning Ukraine to a neutral status will be achieved. “It is better that this happens as a result of peace negotiations,” she added. Zakharova noted that there is some progress, but Moscow expects that a more significant step forward will be taken in the next rounds.

On March 7, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in an interview with Reuters, said that Moscow was ready to “immediately” stop the military operation if Kyiv agreed to its terms. He called the main requirement the introduction of amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine, which guarantee the refusal to join military blocs. Peskov called the recognition of Crimea as Russian territory and the recognition of the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics as two more important conditions.
